Gregory L. Poe

Greg Poe is a trial and appellate lawyer whose practice focuses on complex criminal matters. Greg has tried fourteen federal cases on behalf of criminal defendants; eleven of those trials resulted in either acquittals or hung juries. He has presented oral argument in more than a dozen criminal cases in the federal courts of appeals; his most recent appellate victory was on behalf of one of the nation's largest energy companies in a Clean Air Act case. In addition to his trial and appellate work, Greg has persuaded federal district judges to vacate criminal convictions in post-trial litigation, and he handles especially complicated federal sentencing proceedings.

Many of Greg's most difficult and sensitive matters have been resolved favorably without incident or publicity. He has represented individual targets, witnesses, and companies in grand jury investigations and related enforcement proceedings (sometimes involving classified information); managed and resolved parallel criminal and civil investigations; represented individuals in investigations by Congress and federal inspectors general; and represented both individuals and companies in internal investigations requiring a high degree of discretion. Along with his criminal practice, Greg has handled a broad range of civil matters at all stages of litigation. In that realm, he has represented publicly traded and privately held companies; labor unions; nonprofit corporations; trade associations; and individuals.

Greg was previously a partner in two prominent Washington, D.C. law firms. Early in his legal career, Greg spent a year as deputy general counsel of a large nonprofit corporation in Washington, D.C. Immediately after law school, Greg was a law clerk for the late Honorable Irving L. Goldberg on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Greg is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia; the United States Supreme Court; the United States Courts of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Fifth Circuit, Sixth Circuit, Seventh Circuit, Ninth Circuit, and Eleventh Circuit; and numerous United States District Courts.
